Palak Paneer Bites / Spinach- Indian Cottage Cheese Bites

Palak Paneer Bites / Spinach & Indian Cottage Cheese Bites – a delectable Indian snack / starter. These visually tempting palak paneer bites are easy to prepare and can be made within minutes. It is prepared by mixing grated paneer, finely chopped spinach leaves, green chillies, ginger and a binding agent namely corn flour. The ingredients are mixed well and made into small round balls, flattened and shallow fried in oil. These palak paneer bites can be served with tomato ketchup or mint flavoured yoghurt dip.

Cooking time: 30 minutes

Serving: 2 to 3

Ingredients:

Paneer / Indian Cottage Cheese1 cup (around 150 gm)
Palak / Spinach1 cup
Green Chilli2
Ginger 1 inch piece
Corn flour2 tablespoon
Saltto taste
Oilto shallow fry

Instructions:

  • Wash the palak / spinach and finely chop it. Keep this aside.
  • Grate the paneer into medium size strands.
  • Grind 2 green chillies and 1 inch piece of ginger in a blender. Add little bit of water if necessary to grind. Grind it to a coarse paste.
  • Take a bowl, add the grated paneer, finely chopped palak / spinach and green chilli-ginger paste. Add salt and 2 table spoons of corn flour. Mix and squeeze the ingredients with the palm. The moisture from the washed palak leaves is enough to make it into a dough. Mix the ingredients well until you can make small balls. The corn flour acts as a binding agent. Even after mixing if the ingredients do not gather to form small balls, then add more corn flour.
  • Take a small portion of the mixture and make a round ball. Flatten it into a round shape using both palms. Make similar size flattened patties.
  • Take a pan, add about 3 to 4 tablespoon oil to shallow fry. When the oil is warm enough, gently place 3 or 4 flattened patties on to the pan. Keep the flame low to medium. Fry till the paneer -spinach patties are golden brown in colour. Flip the patties gently so that all the sides are evenly cooked.
  • Drain the patties on a tissue paper.
  • Serve the palak paneer bites with tomato ketchup or with spicy yoghurt dip.

Notes:

  • Variation – Along with palak and paneer, add boiled potatoes.
  • Variation – Add half teaspoon kashmiri chilli powder and half teaspoon garam masala powder to spice up and enhance the flavours.
